Can-Am Defender Clutches

Primary and secondary clutches for the Can-Am Defender, covering the HD7, HD8, HD9, HD10 and HD11. These are replacement and upgrade clutches, for when the original is worn out or you are changing how the machine is set up. Check your model and year on the product page before ordering. If you are not sure whether you need a clutch, a kit or a full system, our clutch help center covers the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between a complete secondary and an empty one?

Complete comes assembled. Empty is the one to buy if you're moving your own spring and helix into it. The product page lists what is in the box, so read that first - an empty housing is no use to you if the parts you planned to reuse are worn out.

What do C130, C134 and C132 mean in the titles?

Those are the primary clutch assembly numbers, and each one is tied to particular models and years in the title. C134, for instance, is listed for the 2016-2019 HD10 and the 2016-2021 HD8. Match the number and the years together, not one or the other.

How do I tell whether it's the primary or the secondary that's worn?

That isn't a guess worth making off a parts page. Todd handles the clutch troubleshooting here, so send him the year, the model, what the machine is doing and when it started. The clutch help center has articles on it if you would rather read first.

What tools will I need?

A holder, a puller and a governor cup tool at minimum, plus a spring compressor for putting it back together. The newer machines use a P-Drive primary and there's a puller listed for the newer models, so work out which primary is on yours before you buy a tool for it.
