Inline Clutch Blower

The information below is from the Manufacturer and below that will be info from Hunterworks

With the advent of and explosion of UTV sales the engineering of drivetrain systems have been pushed to the edge. Previously designed ATV components have been either adopted into the new UTV platforms or have been slightly tweaked to meet the engineering requirements. UTV’s weigh more and carry more cargo than ever thought possible from an ATV platform.

The clutches and drive belt show up as a weak link as the added load is converted to wasted heat energy. This waste heat deteriorates drive belts, and breaks down composite bearing surfaces and parts which lead to increased inefficiency. This loss of efficiency only provides more ways to make heat and the vicious cycle repeats until failure. “THE BLOW HOLE” for UTV’s brings our respected and valued snowmobile product along with its heat fighting abilities to increase the longevity of the drivetrain and ultimately your investment.

We developed this out of a desperate need to increase belt and clutch life on rental machines we have run on the sand dunes. Out in the extreme conditions of the sand dunes it has become commonplace to remove the belt covers in a desperate attempt to prevent belt failures. While removal of the cover does help with belt failures, the increased contact with the sand leads to premature clutch wear and failure. This is why we adapted “THE BLOW HOLE” to fit the UTV market. UTV’s place extreme loads on their clutches and belt which builds extreme heat. This heat is your enemy. It leads to premature wear on your clutches, and complete belt failure. I

If you have ever had to change a belt then you know this is the last thing you want to be doing on the trail or out on the sand. “THE BLOW HOLE” for UTV’s places a high output auxiliary fan in the cooling ducts of your clutch housing. It dramatically reduces ultimate temperatures generated in the clutch system and also speeds cooling of the clutch housing when traveling at lower speeds between high load events. Plug and Play with OEM connectors, and no cutting or drilling of stock components.

The idea for the inline blower is certainly not new, up to this point a lot of homemade remedies using bilge pumps from boats to do this and no real science behind it, just a fan in the CVT inlet or outlet.   Now the CFM of the stock clutch system was calculated and a blower size was chosen, where to put it on what models etc to accomodate the CVT system.

My position on inline blowers before this one was this, if you was a slow driver then do it, otherwise don't because the blower could impede air flow if you didn't have the right blower at high speeds, but this one has been calculated and depending on the vehicle placed in the correct duct for the application. So now my position is everyone will benefit from the use of one, the price is not too high and very easy to install.

On this note, the XP 1000 CVT clutch system moves more air than the inline blower moves at high speed because the XP 1000 has two inlets and the higher RPM or at least the 15-17 model does or any 14 model that the upgraded cover and CVT plumbing to the 15 model. FYI the 14 model XP 1000 still uses a 14 model blower even with a 15 cover, the difference is the wiring harness.

Why does this help everyone even fast movers? Because you are not always at high RPM say like a duner and when you slow down the blower still cools the CVT.  This is great for slow movers as well who create a lot of heat but don't have enough RPM to remove it.

So instead of air flow cycling up and down the blower allows the flow to be more steady for lower and stable CVT and belt temps.

The blower also removes more dust as it acts like a vacuum cleaner on the vehicles with it on exhaust and on the XP 1000 pushing it out all the time once again at a steady state instead of cycling.

The fan runs all the time, when the key is on it is running, no need to turn it off, works best if on and the amperage is very low so it should not affect your charging system.

So at the end of the day, you have a cooler and cleaner CVT system which in turn makes it last longer.
