The Same Edge, Every Time
There is a specific failure pattern that sends people back to the parts counter over and over. The belt does not break. It does not glaze. It slowly grinds away one edge, cords start showing on a single side, and about the time you notice it the machine has picked up a vibration at part throttle. You put a new belt in, and ninety days later you are looking at the exact same wear on the exact same edge.
At that point the belt has stopped being the suspect. A drive belt cannot choose which side to wear on. Something upstream is forcing it to run cocked in the sheaves, and on a Polaris RZR Turbo or Pro that something is almost always the relationship between the crankshaft and the transmission input shaft.
Two Measurements, Not One
People use "clutch alignment" as one phrase, but there are two separate dimensions doing two separate jobs.
Center-to-center distance
This is the straight-line distance between the crankshaft and the transmission shaft. It sets how much belt is wrapped around each clutch and where the belt rides in the sheaves at rest. Get it wrong and you change effective belt tension across the entire shift curve. Too tight and the belt runs high in the primary and cooks. Too loose and it slips before it ever gets a chance to grip.
Offset and parallelism
This is whether the two shafts are actually pointed the same direction and sitting in the same plane. If the transmission is nudged a few thousandths one way, the belt enters the sheave at an angle. That angle is what eats one edge and leaves the other one looking new.
Why It Drifts on Turbo and Pro Models
On the Turbo and Pro platform, the inner aluminum clutch cover is a structural piece. It is part of what holds the spacing between the engine and the transmission. The mounting holes are not zero clearance, though. There is real slop in them, which means the cover can be bolted down in a range of positions rather than one correct position.
Any time you separate the engine and transmission, replace that inner cover, change a motor mount, or chase a leak that required loosening those fasteners, you have handed that spacing back to chance. Torque the bolts in the wrong order with the cover sitting a hair off and the machine is now permanently out of spec until someone measures it. Plenty of machines also leave the line closer to the edge of tolerance than anyone would like, which is why a brand new UTV can chew belts while the identical model next to it never does.
Measuring It Instead of Guessing
You cannot eyeball this. A straightedge across two clutch faces tells you almost nothing because the sheave faces are not flat reference surfaces and the numbers you are chasing are in the thousandths.

It is machined in the USA and it corrects both shaft spacing and alignment.
The workflow is simple. Pull the clutches, set the tool on the two shafts, and leave the inner cover bolts loose. Snug everything down with the tool holding the geometry, then torque in sequence. Now the slop in those bolt holes has been used in your favor instead of against you.
When to Bother
Check it whenever you have had the engine and transmission apart, whenever you install a new or rebuilt primary, and any time belt wear is asymmetric. It is also worth measuring on a used machine you just bought, since you have no idea what the last owner had apart.
A belt is a consumable, but it should be wearing evenly across its width and dying of old age, not getting sawed in half from one side. If yours is not, the answer is a measurement, not another belt.
