Polaris RZR XP 1000 Down on Power After a Rebuild? Check Your Flyweights

Flyweights Are the Brain of Your Primary Clutch

When a Polaris RZR XP 1000 suddenly feels flat on top, revs too high without pulling, or shifts at the wrong RPM, riders often chase the belt or the engine first. But on a machine running a Dalton clutch kit, the real culprit is frequently the flyweights in the primary clutch. These weights determine when and how your clutch shifts, and when one is damaged, the whole shift curve goes with it.

How Flyweights Actually Work

Inside the primary clutch, the flyweights spin against a pressure spring. As engine RPM climbs, centrifugal force flings the weights outward, overcoming the spring and squeezing the sheaves onto the belt to make the machine accelerate and shift. The mass and shape of those weights set the shift RPM: lighter effective weight shifts at a higher RPM, heavier shifts lower. Dalton engineers a specific weight profile for the XP 1000 so the clutch holds the engine in its power band and delivers the crisp, strong pull the kit is known for.

What Happens When a Weight Is Damaged

Flyweights live a hard life. A failing roller, a piece of debris, or a worn pivot can chip, gouge, or crack a weight. Even a small amount of lost material changes that weight's mass and how it swings, which throws off the shift RPM and unbalances the clutch. The result is a RZR that feels inconsistent, down on power, harsh, or unable to hold its RPM the way it did when the kit was fresh. Running a set with one bad weight also accelerates wear on the good ones.

Restore the Kit, Don't Guess

If you've traced the problem to chewed-up or damaged weights, the fix is to put the correct Dalton weights back in, matched to your kit. The Replacement Dalton Flyweights are made specifically for Dalton RZR XP 1000 kits and include the flyweights, rivets, set screws, and washers you need to rebuild the set properly. This gets your clutch back to the exact spec Dalton tuned it to, rather than leaving you to eyeball a mismatched set.

Match Your Year Model

These weights come in two versions tied to your kit. One set is used in the Dalton kits for all 2016-2021 RZR XP 1000 models, and the other is used in the kits for 2014-2015 XP 1000 models, regardless of trim. Because they are engineered for a specific Dalton kit, they should not be run alone or mixed with stock parts. Match the correct replacement flyweights to your year and you'll drop your clutch back onto the tune it was built for.

Get Your Punch Back

Clutch flyweights are small, but they control the entire feel of your RZR XP 1000. If your Dalton-kitted machine has gone soft, peaky, or inconsistent and you find damaged weights inside the primary, don't settle for a compromised tune. Rebuild the set with the correct Dalton flyweights and get back the strong, predictable pull you paid for.
