If your 2024-2026 Kawasaki Ridge grabs hard when you roll into the throttle, or you feel a clunk through the floor as the belt takes up, you are not imagining it. The factory engagement is abrupt, and a lot of owners notice it the first time they pull a trailer or crawl through a gate.
Why the Ridge feels jerky at takeoff
The primary clutch spring sets how early and how firmly the belt gets pinched as the engine comes up. When engagement is late and sharp, the belt goes from loose to gripping in a hurry, and you feel that as a lurch. It is hard on you, hard on whatever you are towing, and it is no fun for a passenger in the back seat.
You do not fix that with a heavier right foot or a gentler hand on the pedal. You fix it at the spring.
What the Dalton Less Jerky Start kit does
The Dalton Less Jerky Start Spring for the Kawasaki Ridge, part number DKRG-P1, is a replacement primary spring plus a custom spring seat. Together they allow earlier, smoother clutch engagement than the factory setting. You get a smoother, more positive take-up of the belt and slightly lower midrange cruising RPM.
The seat matters as much as the spring. Compression springs tend to twist a little as they compress. The seat is made from a durable material used in many clutch applications, and it lets the spring move more fluidly with better consistency.
What fits
This kit fits 2024-2026 Kawasaki Ridge, both 2 and 4 door. A note on the Crew: the crew cab already runs a lower engagement RPM, but this spring still makes engagement smoother and lessens the clunk in the clutches.
Check the belt while you are in there
Any time you open the clutch cover, look at the belt. Glazed sidewalls, cracking, or uneven wear all tell you something. If it is time, the Hunterworks CVT drive belt for the Kawasaki Ridge 1000 fits the 2024-2026 Ridge models. Note that you will want the right belt change tool if you go that route, and the Kawasaki Ridge / KRX belt change tool is a cheap add-on for the job.
A quick plan for the job
- Let the machine cool and remove the clutch cover.
- Inspect the belt and both clutch faces before you take anything apart.
- Swap the primary spring and spring seat using proper clutch tools. These springs hold real force, so do not pry them out with screwdrivers.
- Reassemble, torque to spec, and put the cover back on.
- Take it for an easy ride and notice how the takeoff feels at low RPM.
Who should do this
Anyone whose Ridge hauls a trailer, plows, or does a lot of slow-speed work will notice this the most. It is a spring, a seat and an afternoon, not a full clutch kit.
