Engagement and Belt Load Are Two Different Problems
The Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000 does something most side-by-sides do not. It puts a centrifugal clutch ahead of the CVT, so the belt is not the part absorbing the shock of takeoff. That is why the KRX feels so controlled crawling over rock and why throttle inputs at walking speed are as smooth as they are. Riders who came from other machines notice it immediately.
Where that gets misread is belt life. Because the launch feels clean, riders assume the belt is having an easy time. The centrifugal clutch handles engagement. It does not do anything about what happens after engagement, which is a belt clamped between two sheaves, transmitting full engine torque, running at a low ratio, for as long as the pull lasts.
What Actually Cooks a Belt on a KRX
Belt damage on a KRX almost never comes from a single dramatic event. It comes from sustained heat in the exact conditions the machine is built for.
The heat-generating scenarios
- Long technical crawls. Low ground speed, high load, minimal airflow through the clutch housing, sometimes for an hour at a time.
- Steep sustained climbs. The belt sits down in the primary at full clamp while the engine works.
- Towing and hauling. Added mass means the belt spends longer in the low-ratio, high-load part of its life on every launch.
- Deep sand and mud. Constant resistance and no chance for the primary to shift out and let the belt cool.
Heat is what breaks down the cord and rubber compounds in a belt. Once those compounds start to go, you get the symptoms riders describe as the belt going soft: a bit of glaze on the sidewalls, slightly less grip, a little more slip, which produces more heat, which accelerates everything. A belt rarely fails on the day it starts failing.
Build Quality Is Not Marketing on This Machine
Because the KRX loads its belt the way it does, belt construction matters more here than on a machine that spends its life at cruise RPM. The Hunterworks CVT Drive Belt for the Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000 and KRX4 1000 is built specifically for that kind of duty.
It uses a proprietary construction with blends of polymers, neoprenes, aramid fibers and cords, with a layering process aimed at rough clutching conditions rather than at a spec sheet. Aramid cord reinforcement is there to hold length under load, which is the practical difference between a belt that keeps its calibration and one that stretches and starts riding at the wrong place in the sheaves. What that translates to on the machine is improved belt grip, less stretch, reduced secondary squeal and less jerky starts, and a belt that holds up to the intense sustained stress that crawling, dune running and heavy loads produce.
Fitment
This belt covers 2020 through 2025 Kawasaki Teryx KRX and KRX4 1000, all models. It fits the KRX models only. It replaces Kawasaki part numbers 59011-0047 and 59011-0068. If you are running a Kawasaki Ridge, that is a different belt entirely, so make sure you are ordering for the right machine.
Carry the Spare, Then Ask Why
Every KRX owner should have a spare belt on the machine, and most do. The more useful habit is looking at the one you pull off. Even wear across the sidewalls with normal fraying is a belt that lived a full life. Glazing, uneven sidewall wear, or a belt that measures narrower than spec tells you something upstream deserves a look, whether that is clutch alignment, dirty sheave faces, or simply asking the machine to crawl for hours with no chance to cool.
