Bogging and Belt Slip After Bigger Tires on Your Polaris RZR Turbo or Pro XP? Recalibrate the Clutch

Bigger Tires Feel Great—Until the Clutch Can't Keep Up

A set of taller, heavier tires transforms how a Polaris RZR Turbo or Pro XP looks and climbs. But the factory clutch was calibrated around the stock tire size, and it has no idea you changed anything. The result is a machine that feels lazy off the bottom, flares rpm without matching acceleration, and slips the belt when you're lugging through mud or crawling a hill. That's not a worn belt—it's a clutch that's out of tune for the new load.

Why Taller Tires Throw the Clutch Off

A bigger tire is effectively a taller gear. It takes more force to get it rolling and to keep it accelerating, which means the primary clutch needs to shift differently and hold engagement longer. Stock flyweights and springs shift too early for the added load, so engine rpm climbs while the belt struggles to transfer power. Left alone, that slip glazes the belt, cooks it, and can leave you replacing belts far more often than you should—treating the symptom instead of the cause.

Tune It, Don't Just Belt It

The Dalton Clutch Kit for 2021-2026 Polaris RZR Turbo/Pro recalibrates the clutch for the load you're actually running. It includes new primary and secondary springs plus Dalton's Quick Adjust flyweight lever arms, so you can add or subtract grams to dial in engagement and shift for different tire sizes and conditions—without even pulling the flyweights out of the clutch. The kit is built for improved belt grip, better back shifting when the vehicle senses load, and longer belt life as a direct result.

Fitment and What Makes These Weights Different

This kit fits 2021-2026 Polaris RZR Turbo/Pro, including 2021-and-newer XP Turbo and Turbo S with the Pro XP-type clutches, and it improves performance and belt grip on the Pro XP Turbo and Turbo R. It is not for the Pro R. A separate setup guide is included for the non-Pro XP versions. The Dalton flyweights use a superior bushing material proven in high-horsepower endurance use, so the weight pivots freely on the pin instead of sticking and wallowing out the aluminum housing—plus hardened steel thrust washers on each side for smoother action and less clutch wear.

Dial It In for Where You Ride

The included instructions walk you through exactly how to set the flyweights for your tire size and terrain, so a mud rig, a dune machine, and a trail crawler can each run the calibration that suits them. For the best belt-height and clearance results, Hunterworks also recommends pairing the kit with a primary washer. Add taller tires the right way, and you get back the crisp launch and slip-free power your Turbo had from the factory.

If your RZR Turbo or Pro XP has gone soft since the tire upgrade, the Dalton Clutch Kit is the fix that addresses the cause. Recalibrate the clutch and stop burning belts.
