Belt Dust Packing Your Polaris RZR XP 1000 Clutch Cover? The Factory Fan Only Moves Air When RPM Is Up

The Problem Is Not Always the Belt

Riders pull the clutch cover off a Polaris RZR XP 1000, find the inside of the housing coated in black belt dust and a belt that looks glazed on the sidewalls, and assume they bought a bad belt. Most of the time the belt did exactly what it was asked to do. It was asked to do it in a hot, sealed box with almost no air moving through it.

Every CVT belt gives up material as it works. That material has to leave the clutch housing, and the only thing pushing it out is airflow. When airflow drops, two bad things happen at once: belt dust stays in the housing and packs into the sheave faces and the flyweight area, and the heat that belt is generating stays right there with it. Hot belt plus dirty sheaves equals slip, and slip makes more heat. That loop is what actually kills belts.

Why Low Ground Speed Is the Worst Case

The factory clutch fan on the XP 1000 is mounted on the clutch and spins with it, which means the amount of air it moves is tied directly to engine RPM. On a fast trail run at steady RPM, that setup works reasonably well. The problem is the riding where you generate the most belt heat is often the riding where the fan is doing the least work.

Situations that starve the clutch of air

  • Crawling rock and technical trail at low speed, feathering the throttle
  • Plowing, dragging an implement, or working the machine at low ground speed
  • Slow, tight woods riding where you never let the primary shift out
  • Idling and creeping in a line of machines at a staging area after a hard run

In all of those, the belt is running down low in the primary, generating heat, and the RPM-dependent fan is barely pulling anything through the ductwork. That is when the housing turns into an oven.

Move Air Independent of RPM

The fix is straightforward: add an active vent that pulls air out of the housing regardless of what the tachometer says. The Clutch Inline Blower for Polaris RZR XP 1000 is an inline DC fan that mounts to the clutch ductwork and pulls roughly 140 CFM through the clutch housing, working with the OEM clutch fan rather than replacing it.

Two things come out of that. Hot air is actively expelled even at low ground speed, so the clutches and belt run cooler and hold their calibration better. And the fine belt dust and debris that would otherwise pack into the cover area gets essentially vacuumed out, so the sheave faces stay cleaner and the belt keeps a consistent grip.

What it takes to run one

The fan is a low amp draw unit, drawing about 2.0 amps at startup and 1.7 amps continuous, so it does not overload the electrical system on the machine. The motor is built to be water and dust resistant, the housing is welded aluminum, and it uses a factory connector for a plug and play install with a quick disconnect for troubleshooting. Installing it does not get in the way of belt changes.

Fitment and What to Order

This blower covers 2014 through 2025 Polaris RZR XP 1000 models, and you pick the version that matches your machine: #10247 for 2024 to 2025 XP, #10047c for 2015 to 2023, and #10039 for 2014. Check the year on your machine before ordering, because the ductwork is not the same across all of those years.

Do This With It, Not Instead of It

A blower is not a license to skip service. Pull the cover, blow the housing out, inspect the belt for glazing and cord damage, and check that your sheave faces are clean. What the blower changes is how fast that housing gets dirty and how hot the belt gets between services. On a machine that spends its life at low ground speed, that difference shows up directly in belt life.
