2014-15 Polaris XP 1000 and XP4 1000 Clutch Kit
This page of information is about 2014-2015 RZR XP 1000
2016 and newer do NOT have dampeners
Before we get into the clutch kit, I highly recommend the HD dampner when you buy the clutch kit. While you change the secondary spring it would take only seconds to swap out to the HD Dampner. The stock one is made from powered metal and fails on the 1000's and built 900 so for $35 get it for cheap insurance to prevent destroying your secondary clutch.
Also, for the Rock Crawlers and other people who ride very slow or with really heavy tires and ride slow, you might want to get the optional Orange/Green primary spring for lower engagement RPM. Call for more details
Also consider the HD rollers as the stock ones flat really bad, see the rollers on the XP1000 page for more info on them
Who needs one? Every owner of either the two seater or four!!
Why? Because this time Polaris simply got every single part of the clutch wrong.
As long as we have been dealing with clutches and using Dalton kits as well as working directly with Dalton on the kits this is the first time Dalton simply stated, not one component is correct for this application. So their kit includes, new primary spring, new adjustable primary weights, a new secondary spring and for the first time on any UTV kit a new dual angle helix or dual purpose helix. What is a dual purpose helix? It has two different ramp angles or positions you will use it in the secondary clutch depending on your set up that is covered in the instruction manual.
These helixes are billet aluminum not cast then machined for a machine finish. This way cost more, but is much better and has no open pores in the secondary roller ramps in it.
The 1000's have been plagued with belt issues since they came out, there is a new helix for the four seater Polaris puts out and now you can upgrade the belt cover to the newer 2015 style for more air. Both are just band-aids for the real issue, bad clutch calibration.
Dalton, stated to me, yes we are about last to the game with a kit for the 1000 but that gave them time to fully develop it over time in all kinds of conditions. Here is his actual statement:
"We might be once again late coming to the game, but we feel we are substantially better...., we dont need to be first...and we tested a lot on this vehicle.....the kit will sell itself over time on its own merits."
This is a kit that there will not be a optional spring for the secondary, only the one included in the kit. The stock tires are so large that it does not require a optional and he has taken all that into account in the dual angle helix.
The helix provides engine braking but we call it "Less EBS" meaning it will have engine braking but not as abrupt. You will not be a full on EBS helix or a non-braking helix either.
The XP1000 has a wide power band best ran between 8200-8600 and even if you stock clutch can run it there, that does not mean the clutch is ok. The Dalton kit takes it there much more efficiently with a increase in perceived power, lower belt temps along with better backshifting for better hill or dune climbing.
There are two totally different clutch kits for the two seater and four seater so make sure you order the right one.
