RZR 4 Kit Article
There are several other tech articles on the Dalton kits I have written you might want to look at but this one is just short and sweet just for the RZR 4 owner and why he or she would need this kit. Polaris uses the same clutch set up in the two seater RZR as the RZR 4 and it is off causing performance issues and burned belts. I asked Dalton what points I could pass on to the RZR 4 owner to help understand why you might need this kit and the following was their response. Of course we have install videos for these kits and will be glad to answer any questions you have.
Before we get to Dalton's response, the Dalton is a great kit and while a bit more expensive than some kits it makes up for it by being so simple and being adjustable for future mods like tires etc. The RZR 4 owner will need a tool to change the secondary spring in this kit.
Clutch calibration is very case specific, and usually the required calibration changes are based on things like
-Weight, both rotating and static weight. In this case there is a very dramatic difference in static weight if you add 4 persons vs 1-2 persons on a regular model.....plus the vehicle itself is heavier, and more gear often carried.
If the vehicle is heavier, the last thing you want to do is upshift the belt pulley system too fast and pull the rpm down too low and slip the primary clutch from the wrong belt ratio.
Polaris sends the vehicles (both 2 seat and 4 seat) out with the same clutch set up.....which one is wrong?...both can have more case specific or more accurate calibrations for certain things, but the 4 seat model is a dog when people added, ...even one extra person, and clutch calibration helps a lot on this model.
The Dalton kit was extensively tested with lots of tires, terrain choices and lots of people and sand bags used to track test results of many aspects of the application. There is a very detailed set up guide included for case specific applications. As long as people take the time to read the instructions and do not alter or change anything to mess up the shift pattern in any way by listening to internet or "assume" things or try to put their own twist on it, ...it will function as tested...because it WAS tested.
The kit works
